Apple Day

First graders celebrated Apple Day last Wednesday.  It was a day filled with lots of learning about many apple-related topics: we read about (and tried) different types of apples, studied the life cycle of an apple tree, learned the history of Johnny Appleseed, made patterns with different colored apples, played an apple math game, sang songs about apples, and kicked off our unit on sequential (or "how-to") writing by following a recipe, making applesauce, and recording the steps with words and pictures.
