For your viewing pleasure, here is another one of our festive class favorites!

Today we watched a video featuring one of our frog room favorites...Mr. Nelson!  Mr. Nelson agreed to let me record him performing one of our Thanksgiving songs and the kids LOVED it!

Crank up the volume, sing along, and enjoy!

After watching Mr. Nelson's video, we decided to make one of our own!
Who does it better?  You be the judge!
Later, we watched the video that last year's first graders made.
They were good, but....

Of course, we decided that THIS year's frog room kiddos were still the champions! :)
Way to go, singers!

On Wednesday, December 11, our class will visit DeGraaf Nature Center in Holland for a program called “Pioneer Christmas.”  This is a perfect culmination of our social studies unit on “then and now,” as we will get to experience Christmas like the early pioneers did!  We are able to take 4 parent volunteers on this trip.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in coming!  Volunteers will need to be at school by 12:00 and we will return to New Groningen by 2:30.

As we approach conference time, I would like you to take a moment to fill out the survey below.

This will help me to plan and prepare for our time together so that our 20 minute conference is as effective and efficient as it can be!  We will use our time together to celebrate your child's success in first grade, review the November report card, and discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.

As a reminder, I do value consistent and specific parent-teacher communication and I truly treasure that partnership that I have with each one of you.  If I had any major concerns about your son/daughter's progress, I would have brought them to your attention already.  This conference is primarily to share and celebrate the incredible work that your child has done and to provide you with a framework so that you can see where we're headed and how you can help.  First grade is a year of major growth and we are well on our way!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns that require more space than what is given below, please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time.

I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday, November 11 or Tuesday, November 12!

Please use this song to practice counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's for your homework this week!

Wow!  What a fantastic couple of days in the Frog Room!  If you have never experienced the magic, excitement, and energy of Halloween in an elementary school, you're certainly missing out!
Our class celebrated "Pumpkin Day" on Thursday with lots of fun pumpkin-themed activities and our highly-anticipated pumpkin science and math investigations.  We ended our day by carving pumpkins in small groups with parent volunteers and eating a special pumpkin snack.  It was a blast!

Thank you to Mrs. Lencioni, Mrs. Corder, and Mrs. Anderson for helping with this fun day!
Friday was another day filled with fun!  We kicked off the festive morning by having TWO special guest mystery readers -- Mr. Nelson and my son, Elias!  Eli couldn't wait to show the first graders his elephant costume, and the kids had a lot of fun teaching him all about our classroom.  Our mystery readers also brought us a special snack that they made together: our pumpkin seeds from Thursday's science investigations! The kids loved tasting their special cinnamon-sugar roasted recipe - yum!
After lunch, we had the New Groningen Penny Carnival and our class Halloween Party; what a wonderful afternoon!  We had close to 20 parent volunteers in and out of our classroom on Friday and I was absolutely blown away by how smoothly everything went.  THANK YOU to all of you who helped plan, donated supplies, zipped up costumes, decorated our classroom, ran stations at the party, made our first graders smile, and even cleaned it all up afterwards,  Bless your hearts!  You sure made my job easier, and I loved getting to enjoy this special day with the kiddos who are so dear to me.  THANK YOU!
I sure hope that you're all able to enjoy a relaxing Fall weekend with your families after such a busy and fun-filled week!
