Your kids have been working hard on mastering their letters and sounds over the past few weeks.  We have spent time in class working on correct letter formation (handwriting practice), matching letter names to their sounds, and remembering our zoo-phonics friends.  This practice may seem a little young for some of your first graders — but it is definitely paying off!  I have loved walking around the room to hear the kids stretching the sounds in their reading (decoding tricky words) and writing.  This skill is laying a strong foundation for our independent practice in reading and writing workshop!

Our  favorite way to practice letter sounds each morning is definitely by singing along with Dr. Jean’s song “Who Let the Letters Out?”  Check out our video below — you may recognize the beat!
